Insomnia

Sleep difficulties show up in many ways: problems falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, and waking early. It is estimated that at least 54% of people have one insomnia symptom a few nights of the week.

There are many possible causes of insomnia:

  • Hypothyroidism

  • Depression and Anxiety

  • Blood Sugar Irregularities

  • Adrenal Fatigue and a circadian rhythm disorder

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Food Allergies

  • Medication’s side effect

  • Pain

  • And much more...

While occasional restless nights can be normal, prolonged insomnia can interfere with your life, including daytime function, impaired concentration, brain fog, poor memory, accidents, headaches and depression. Though many people have insomnia, only 1 in 3 will actually bring this up to their doctor.

Here at KCIH, we regularly ask about sleep health and recognize how important it is. You can expect a thorough assessment oriented to determine what is impeding your body's ability to function normally and then establish a strategy specific to your health needs. We often complete specific testing (e.g. hormones, cortisol levels, vitamins and minerals) to determine physiologic aspects that may be affecting your sleep.

Naturopathic treatments are focused on addressing the root cause (or causes) of the problem. Once we determine what exactly caused the insomnia, we treat and prevent it with natural modalities such as acupuncture, diet, herbs, homeopathy, lifestyle and relaxation techniques as well as some supplementation.
